Daily Skincare Routine For Winter – To Keep Skin Better

During Winter, we know how to endure the cold weather, but that doesn’t mean we are immune to the chilling effects on our skin. Winter weather brings changes in humidity and cold winds that can wreak havoc on your skin.

The most common skin problems during Winter are drying of the skin, cracking of skin on hands and feet, chapping of lips, itchiness due to dry skin, dry rashes, and recurring dry skin disorders. Luckily, there are various ways to protect your skin and beat back the negative effects of the Winter season.

These skin problems can be addressed and resolved through a proper skincare routine. Read on to know about what an effective Winter skincare routine looks like:

Day Time Routine:

Cleanse:
In Winter, your skin can get quite dry after washing your face. In the morning, start by washing your face with a gentle face cleanser designed for your skin type. Use warm water for bathing and facewash, but not steaming hot water though.

Moisturize:
Once you are done with cleansing, head for moisturizing your skin immediately to avoid dryness on your face. Not using a moisturizer and keeping it dry may cause serious issues to your skin. Prolonged dryness can make your skin look dull and can also cause an itch which may eventually give you a rash. Dehydrated skin is highly prone to skin disorders related to dryness. Hence, moisturization should be the most important part of your winter skincare routine.

Protect:
Moisturization of the skin should always be followed by applying sunscreen as it protects your skin from sun rays and UV exposure. A lifetime of sun exposure can cause wrinkles, age spots and other skin problems. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Apply sunscreen generously, and reapply every two hours or more often if you’re swimming or perspiring.

Hydrate:
Drinking water and maintaining hydration of the body is a no-brainer in skincare routines. Keeping yourself hydrated will also keep your skin hydrated. Moisture from within rejuvenates our skin and keeps it healthy & smooth. Hydrated skin is also a deterrent to dry skin.

While we do not sweat profusely during Winter, as compared to Summer, drinking water should still be an essential habit to follow in Winter. Your body and skin require water for regular metabolism and combating dry skin.

Re-moisturize (if required):
Applying a moisturizer daily morning might solve the issue of dryness for most of the part. But for some individuals whose skin tends to dry up quicker than others or individuals with specific dry skin disorders, applying a moisturizer more than once is inevitable and recommended to prevent dryness of the skin. You can keep moisturizing your skin as many times as it requires to stay hydrated in a day.

Night Time Routine:

Cleanse:
A cleansing routine should be done at least twice a day, even if it’s cold and the skin is dry. The reason is that the skin goes through normal wear and tear on a day-to-day basis and gets exposed to outdoor pollution and dust.

To wash and cleanse your face, use a cleanser that has hydrating properties and does not take away the necessary oils on the face. Wash with warm water.

Re-hydrate:
Needless to say, your skin requires more moisturization during Winter to prevent dryness. Using a moisturizer at night will balance your skin pH and take care of it the entire night so that you can wake up with smooth, hydrated skin.

Hence, with some simple changes in your skincare routine at the start and end of the day, you can counter the effects of the Winter season. Supplementing the changes with a few essential products will give even better results.
